Whom is this for and what should I expect ?

Our doctors can only treat patients over the age of 18 who are based in the UK. Prior to your initial consultation we will arrange a comprehensive blood test. During your initial consultation, your doctor will carefully review and discuss your medical history and goals and come up with a comprehensive treatment plan.

What's the cost for the initial consultation?

The comprehensive blood test including sex hormones, thyroid hormones, an adrenal hormone and comprehensive screening tests PLUS the initial consultation is a total of £699. This is the first step for every new patient.

More FAQ's

Are all appointments online or via telephone?

Yes. We believe that in current times, being able to access treatment from the comfort of your own home is the way forward. It provides access for those who live in remote areas or have physical limitations. Studies have shown that patients perceive the quality of care or communication in telemedicine to be the same or better than at the traditional office visits and almost one quarter said the quality of telehealthcare was better than an in-person appointment.

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are precise duplicates of the body’s own hormones. Taking these hormones is adding something that the body already recognises and knows how to metabolise. Conversely, conventional HRT usually includes hormone-like drugs that are not identical in structure do the body’s own, such as conjugated equine oestrogens or synthetic progestins. As well as binding to hormone receptors, these hormone-like drugs may bind to other receptors, causing unwanted side effects.

Bioidentical hormones may be prescribed in licensed standardised dose products, or unlicensed individually tailored doses to meet the individual’s needs, using a compounding pharmacy. All our patients have regular monitoring including breast screening, pelvic ultrasound screening and blood tests. Options will be discussed on an ongoing basis and the final decision of what feels right for you is always yours.

Synthetic progestins have been shown to have a negative impact on breast tissue, vasculature and cholesterol profiles whereas bioidentical progesterone has not been shown to do so.

If bioidentical hormones are made up at an individualised dose for a person, this will be done by a compounding pharmacy. Individualised doses of medication are unlicensed.

How long do I stay on bioidentical hormones?

There is no maximum duration of therapy and most of our patients want to stay on their hormones longterm!

How do I get my medication?

You can either get standardised licensed bioidentical hormones from a regular pharmacy or, if we are making up an individual dose for you, we use the following UK compounding pharmacies:

Specialist Pharmacy

What about tests?

We test hormone levels before prescribing and on an ongoing basis. The hormone testing that we do is not available on the NHS and please understand that we therefore will not ask the NHS to carry this out. If you have had blood tests done recently with your NHS GP please bring all recent/relevant test results with you to your appointment.

Blood tests or urine tests for hormones may be done when your symptoms have changed.

If you are on hormone treatment from us, please take your morning dose of hormones 4 hours before your hormone blood test unless specifically told otherwise

How long does it take to notice a difference?

Often when we start treatment, people will notice a difference within the first three weeks but give it up to 8 weeks – this is when we meet to review. However, sometimes it can take longer, in which case we will work closely with you  to get the balance right.

I missed a few doses of hormones. What should I do?

Continue taking your hormones as you normally would. There is no need to take extra to compensate for the missed dose.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. A referral from your GP is not necessary. It is important that you are registered with a GP though as we do not provide general practice services. London Bioidentical Hormones is always happy to write to your GP at any stage.
